Dr. Phillips

Dr. Phillips is a suburb in southwest Orlando, Florida. With an estimated population of 10,981, it is an unincorporated area of Orange County. The area was named after Dr. Phillip Phillips, a Central Florida citrus tycoon. He owned thousands of acres of orange, grapefruit and tangerine groves, which stretched across nine counties. At one time, he was known as the world's largest citrus grower and is responsible for the innovations of processing and packaging orange juice.

With the rumors of Walt Disney envisioning the Walt Disney World Resort, Dr. Phillips hired a developer to build a community in the area for people and workers to live, which in 1969 became what we know today as the communities of within Dr. Phillips of Bay Hill, Orange Tree, Turkey Lake Park and Sand Lake Hills. The neighborhood of Dr. Phillips was the first master-planned community in the Central Florida area. Dr. Phillips sold his citrus holdings to a commercial partnership, in which Minute Maid was a part of in 1954. Dr. Phillips and his wife, Della, were distinguished advocates of the arts, hosting many Sunday afternoon musical productions and miscellaneous cultural events in their home. The City of Orlando still honors them with their new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in November of 2014.

The communities of Dr. Phillips benefit from its proximity to all of Central Florida's renown attractions. Just a fifteen minute drive from downtown Orlando, where residents can enjoy multiple sporting events at the Amway Center, numerous theatrical and musical performances at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts or the Bob Carr Theater, a multitude of art galleries, along with award-winning dining, shopping and a vibrant night life. Orlando's world famous theme parks, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and all of the Disney Parks are also nearby with Restaurant Row on Sand Lake Road being in the vicinity. Nestled between the Butler Chain of Lakes and the Sand Lake Chain of Lakes, there is plenty of outdoor recreation available. Rather you want to swim or sunbathe at their beautiful shorelines, go waterskiing in the lakes or just take a breathtaking ride of the estates around the lakes, these waters can be very rural and tranquil amongst this city life. The 270-acre world-class Bay Hill Club & Lodge, with its award-winning Arnold Palmer designed golf course is in the community. Hosting the Annual Arnold Palmer Invitational of Bay Hill, it attracts not only some of the best golf professionals but also golf enthusiasts from around the world. The Orange Tree Golf Club is a 4 ½ star, challenging, 18-hole, championship course that offers golfers of all abilities a thrilling golf experience amidst the beautifully manicured surroundings of Dr. Phillips.

With a community that has an average age of 43 and 57.1% of its population being married and 39.4% of those having children under the age of 18 at home, Dr. Phillips is a great family neighborhood to call home. And with children there is always the concern of quality of education. The Orange County Public School system offers children an unmatched education. Dr. Phillips High School is an "A" rated school and is home to the OCPS Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and Center for International Studies (CIS) magnet programs and also host to two career academies focusing on medical and business careers. This school has a 94.6% graduation rate with 52.6% of those students continuing their education and receiving their Bachelor's Degree, while 23.2% obtain a Graduate or professional degree.

Being in the diverse metro area of Orlando, the residents of Dr. Phillips have an estimated median household income of $82,880. There are endless possibilities offered with an average of 21 minutes for commuting.
