The founders of Milwaukee based Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, The Uihlein family, owned and developed the Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, which comprises Lakewood Ranch, Florida, the Sarasota Polo Club, and the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. Built on part of what was once a timber ranch, this 8,500-acre master-planned community consisted of seven villages. The development started in 1995 with the first neighborhood of Summerfield. As the area expanded over the years, along with the population, Lakewood Ranch was created. With more than 15,000 residents, nine villages, three golf courses, 1,200 businesses, several top rated schools and colleges, a hospital, a number of churches and a well-known polo club, Lakewood Ranch is rated as one of the Top 10 Selling and Most Desirable Master- Planned Communities in the United States. With gorgeous white sandy beaches nearby, inviting tropical weather, an abundance of outdoor activities and the finest shopping and dining, Lakewood Ranch really does have it all!
Main Street was created in Lakewood Ranch as a local downtown, providing amenities like food (grocery, wine and spirits), dining (family-style, gourmet cuisine, coffee shops and ice cream parlors), shopping (specialty stores and boutiques) for the community. It is also a venue which was created for social and recreational activities. They host many festivals and activities throughout the year; the annual Art at the Ranch Festival, Suncoast Wine Festival and a Health & Wellness Expo. Plus celebrating the season's festivities, there is an Irish Celtic Festival in March, EGGstravaganza at Easter time, Memorial Day "Tribute to Heroes" Parade, the Back to School Splash Bash Event, BOO FEST for Halloween and close out the year with Holidays Around the Ranch, our annual holiday sensation of magical charm. This is a true entertainment district, inclusive of its own 6 screen theater.

Designated as the largest green-certified community in the United States, every new village opened since 2005, has been built "green," by incorporating the best building products and techniques available. Lakewood Ranch's unwavering commitment to the environment gives residents a healthier, more energy-efficient home and community to reside in.
