Palmer Ranch

Palmer Ranch is a master planned real estate development in Sarasota County, Florida between the cities of Sarasota and Osprey. Originally part of the 80,000 acres of Florida land purchased in 1910 by Bertha Honoré Palmer, wife of Chicago department store tycoon Potter Palmer. Known for his overwhelming customer service and French couture, Potter Palmer and Company, eventually developed into the prominent Midwestern department store chain, Marshall Field and Company. The progressive, wealthy, socialite, business woman fell in love with sunny Sarasota and purchased this very large tract of rural land to be used for growing and farming oranges and raising cattle. Today, there are only a few head of cattle that remain in these farming pastures as in the 1990's, this area has become home to Palmer Ranch. Spreading over 10,000 acres, with its 30 different neighborhoods, shopping centers and a mall, it is by far Sarasota's largest single development.

Located in central Sarasota, Palmer Ranch is a very accessible, popular community with its geographical location that gives residents easy access to US-41 (Tamiami Trail) and Interstate 75. It's location puts the remarkable downtown area of Sarasota, within a 10 minute drive plus with its accessibility to I-75, it allows traveling in a lot of different directions, rather it be for work or pleasure. The beautiful Gulf Coast Siesta Key Beach is just a short drive, with its 1987 Great International White Sand Challenge award, it has also awarded by the Travel Channel in 2004, repeating in 2011, the title of "The Best Sand Beach in America" and was named #1 "Beach in the Country" by Dr. Beach.

The current population of Palmer Ranch is approximately 9,464 offering the diversity of housing styles from maintenance free condos to million dollar estates. With the exception of Wellington Chase and The Isles, most of the exclusive neighborhoods within Palmer Ranch are gated, and have access by a clicker or many maintain manned gates. The median household income is $60,978, with an average age is 60 with 71.8% of them being married. 30% of Palmer Ranch residents have lived in their homes for more than 5 years, creating a very influential, stable environment.

A community offering an immense variety of amenities, the overall look of Palmer Ranch is "green." From the environmentally friendly treelined gaslite lanterned streets and coveted in home gas for cooking to the access of the nature based trail system of Legacy Trail, the Evalyn Sadlier Jones branch of the Sarasota YMCA and three exclusive gold country clubs, Palmer Ranch is a wonderful family friendly development. Residents enjoy walking, rollerblading, and biking on the 10 miles of the safe and easy trails of the Legacy Trail system, which can take you south to Venice, Fl, if you are that ambitious. Palmer Ranch host the TPC Prestancia, the Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club, and The Oaks Club. The TPC Prestancia, has been the host club for eight of the Chrysler Cup Tournaments and five American Express Invitational Champion Tour events. The Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club is an Arthur Hills designed challenging 18 hole golf course, community swimming pools, tennis courts and a well equipped fitness center. The Oaks Club is the original location of Bertha Palmer's home and is one of the more exclusive golfing and country club communities within the Sarasota area.

The children of the Palmer Ranch community are served by the Sarasota Public Schools, ranked in 2014 the second in the state of the 67 school districts. These "A" rated schools offer the students of the area an opportunity for an exceptional educational experience.
